What is a WBMP file
WBMP are known as wireless bitmap images and can most commonly be found on older mobile devices. When cell phones haven't been as developed as they were today, WBMP was the image format to send images from one phone to another using the SMS messaging service. Contrary to images sent in between smart phones, the WBMP files can only display black and white images.
This by now widely replaced raster image format was very useful for older generations of mobile phones. WBMP files share many similarities with BMP files, the standard bitmap images. Yet, they only support 1-bit image data and are thus only displaying black and white (monochrome) colors. This means that any other color or gray scale are not supported by the WBMP.
Here's a small, but not exhaustive list of programs that can open WBMP documents:
- ACD Systems ACDSee (Windows)
- ACD Systems Canvas (Windows)
- Adobe Photoshop (Windows & Mac)
- Adobe Photoshop Elements (Windows & MAc)
- Corel PaintShop (Windows)
- File Viewer (Android)
- Inkscape (Windows, Mac & Linux)
