What is a TAX2014 file
Intuit TurboTax is a program that allows US citizens to create files for their tax return. TAX2014 is the extension assigned to files created for the according year, thus containing all kinds of tax data for 2014. The forms included in the file can be both federal and specific for a particular state. Despite the extension carrying the TAX2014 extension, those files have been typically created in 2015 since the annual tax returns are filed for the year prior.
TAX2014 files contain binary data about US tax returns. Older files like TAX2013 as well as TAX2014 can be used by TurboTax to import tax data into a document for the current annual tax return. Both the desktop and the online version of TurboTax have been able to create TAX2014 files. Furthermore, the TAX2014 files are compatible across operating systems, enabling Mac users to open TAX2014 documents created on a Windows machine and vice versa. Since it is possible to not only print but also send TAX2014 files via mail, it is possible to encrypt the file using a password.
