What is a SITX file
Files with the SITX extension have been developed by Smith Micro as an archive format for Stuffit X, a file compression software developed for Mac OS X. Thanks to advanced compression technology, SITX files offer a better compression than its predecessor files with a SIT extension. Compared to SIT files, SITX archives offer 20% better compression rate.
Some specifications of the SITX file format include the support of long file-names, an in-build error correction and the preservation of file permissions assigned by different operating systems (i.e. Windows & UNIX). SITX files are also able to contain encryption (512-bit) and other security and safety methods. It offers high compression rates of JPG images thanks to the ATOM compression technology used by Stuffit X.
Here's a small, but not exhaustive list of programs that can open SITX documents:
- Incredible Bee Archiver (Mac)
- Smith Micro StuffIt Deluxe (Windows & Mac)
- The Unarchiver (Mac)
