What is a ROM file
Files with the ROM file extension can serve multiple purposes. The probably most well known among them is the Nintendo 64 Game Rom file. These kind of ROM files contain gaming data from games for the Nintendo 64 video game console, allowing a user to play N64 games on a computer using an emulator.
ROM files contain an exact duplicate of the data stored on a Nintendo 64 game cartridge. The files are saved in read-only mode and require an N64 emulator to be played. The more common gaming ROM file extension for Nintendo 64 game ROMs, however, are the N64 or V64 file extension.
