What is a OVF file
OVF files contain information certain programs need in order to run a program in a virtual machine. Many virtualization applications use OVF files since it is open and can thus be used by many platforms, not just those provided by VMware, the developers of the OFV file format.
Technically, OVF files are merely text files containing different information needed to package and distribute software for virtual machines. The file is formatted using a standard of the same name; OVF.
Here's a small, but not exhaustive list of programs that can open OVF documents:
- Oracle VM Virtualbox (Windows, Mac & Linux)
- VMware Fusion (Mac)
- VMware OVF Tool (Windows, Mac & Linux)
- VMware Workstation (Windows & Linux)
