What is a OGV file
OGV is a free lossy video compression format which is developed by Xiph.org. It is principally linked with OGG Vorbis. OGG is a standardized and open bitstream container format which is designed specifically for manipulation and streaming.
OGV is related to OGG which is a video bitstream container format. This OGV file format can multiplex numerous separate independent open source CODECs for text, video and audio, like Theora. Its various CODECs have been incorporated into several different commercial and free media players as well as several portable media players too by different manufacturers. On Webpages, OGV files are often used to play videos using the HTML5 < video > tag. Generally, these videos are referenced as being OGG files in the HTML source even though the underlying file format is OGV.
Here's a small, but not exhaustive list of programs that can open OGV documents:
- VLC
- Miro media Player
- MPlayer
- Helix Player
