MBP - Mobipocket Notes File

What is a MBP file

Mobipocket Notes Files (MBPs) are files associated with e-books. When people read e-books, they usually have the ability to make notes within the book. These notes are usually things like drawings, corrections, bookmarks added within the content of the book, the last read position or notes added by the user to highlight parts they found to be important or want to remember for future use. These files are very closely related to the e-book, so they are typically stored in the same file location as the e-book. While they are saved in the same place, they are saved as an MBP file.

Amazon purchased Mobipocket in 2005. This was soon after an announcement from Adobe Systems that they would no longer be selling the software they had for e-book packaging and serving. The Mobipocket reader was made available in a java-based version in June of 2008. This alpha version was focused on cellphone functionality. There has also been desktop version that runs on Microsoft Windows released. This version also functions on Linux and Mac OS X. However, in late 2011, it’s been reported that Amazon no longer supports Mobipocket. This is likely due to their release of the Kindle e-book format. However, it is still necessary to be able to convert MBP files for those users who still have them.

Here's a small, but not exhaustive list of programs that can open MBP documents:
