What is a HLP file
HLP files are used by a Windows native program called Windows Help. The program provides users with help information about the Windows operating system and different Windows programs. The HLP file stores information displayed in Windows Help and can also be viewed in the Windows Help Viewer. Both programs come with every Windows installation.
HLP files contain information displayed in the Windows Help program. More precisely, it contains indexes and documentations of several Windows programs and the operating system itself. Unfortunately, HLP files generated for older versions of Windows can sometimes not be properly displayed by the Windows Help program of newer installations.
Here's a small, but not exhaustive list of programs that can open HLP documents:
- Adobe RoboHelp (Windows & Mac)
- Help Explorer Viewer (Windows & Linux)
- Microsoft Windows Help Viewer (Windows)
- Microsoft Help Workshop (Windows)
- YpgSoft Windows HLP To RTF (Windows)
