What is a CFML file
Files with the CFML extension contain web pages that have been coded in a specific programming language, CFML. CFML stands for ColdFusion Markup Language and has been acquired and is maintained by Adobe. CFML files can be viewed and opened in any web browser on a Windows, Mac or Linux computer. However, to edit the file, a special program like Adobe's ColdFusion or Dreamweaver is needed. The CFML extension is less common and spread since CFML files are usually saved using the CFM file extension.
CFML files contain full webpages written in the ColdFusion Markup Language. The file and the programming language are used to communicated with a ColdFusion sever. When a user opens a web page coded in CFML, the file provides all operations needed to be executed on the server. Several different operations can be written in a CMFL file. For example database operations, HTML code embedded in the CFML, or other elements that are displayed on the web page.
Here's a small, but not exhaustive list of programs that can open CFML documents:
- Adobe ColdFusion (Windows, Mac & Linux)
- Adobe ColdFusion Builder (Windows & Mac)
- Adobe Dreamweaver CC (Windows & Mac)
- Railo (Windows, Mac & Linux)
- View in any web browser
